HAMLAR, NUREMBERG/Germany. On January 16, 2024, Tobias Gotthardt, State Secretary in the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, visited the Grenzebach booth during his visit of the EUROGUSS trade fair in Nuremberg. The State Secretary, accompanied by Christan Herfert, Senior Vice President Special Technologies Grenzebach Group, was given an insight into the future of die casting processing and Grenzebach's diverse specialist areas.

Gotthardt, who has only recently been appointed in this position, used the opportunity at EUROGUSS to find out more about the die casting industry, particularly in Bavaria. He was warmly welcomed at the Grenzebach booth and had the chance to talk to company representatives.

Grenzebach, a German company headquartered in Bavaria, is presenting its broad portfolio in casting and friction stir welding at the trade fair. Grenzebach is an international family-run company and automation specialist known for its expertise in these areas.

Friction stir welding is important for e-mobility

Expertise in die casting and friction stir welding

At the center of the meeting between Gotthardt and Herfert was the future of die casting and its further processing using modern production technologies. Herfert told the State Secretary about the importance of friction stir welding, particularly for e-mobility. In light of the increased use of lightweight metals such as aluminum in electric vehicles, electromobility requires a change in thinking in traditional vehicle construction. Friction stir welding provides an emission-free and high-quality solution for joining materials durably and tightly. This is especially important for producing battery trays and heat exchangers in the automotive industry.

Grenzebach also showcased high-quality castings. The company has mastered the production of cast parts in all weight classes and dimensions and supplies them worldwide. Grenzebach supplies the right casting parts for industrial robots in particular.

Further technologies by Grenzebach

Herfert adds: "Grenzebach has been working in the die casting industry for many years. Alongside this, we also supply other technologies, such as automated guided vehicles and vision technology for industrial robots, which complete our portfolio for customers." According to Herfert, Grenzebach is known for its holistic understanding of the industry and always focuses on its customer's overall needs.

After the visit, he would like to see the government do the same: "SMEs have great ideas for meeting the current and future needs of the industry. To achieve this, we need support from all sides. Only in this way can the industry benefit from these ideas in the long term."
