Grenzebach Envelon GmbH honored at the German Design Awards 2023
- ENVELON receives GOLD award
- Combination of climate-friendly solar power and attractive aesthetics convinces the jury
- Third award for ENVELON technology within four months
FRANFURT AM MAIN, HAMLAR/Germany. Another award for the German company: Grenzebach Envelon GmbH was awarded “Gold” for “The ENVELON system” in the category Excellent Product Design – Building and Elements on February 03, 2023, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. With its colorful modules, ENVELON releases innovations in sustainable building with aesthetic value. This also convinced the jury: “The integration of photovoltaic technology into building facades to generate eco-friendly electricity from solar power often faces challenges due to limitations in design aesthetics and technical compatibility with conventional panels”. With the high-quality ‘ENVELON’ façade modules from Grenzebach Envelon, the integration of state-of-the-art solar technology into architecture succeeds at a high design level. The system allows façades to be planned in different colors and arrangements, giving buildings their own unmistakable identity. At the same time, the individual glass panels can be efficiently and neatly installed with the use of a secure mounting system on the back.
Solar architecture: technology and aesthetics for a new era
ENVELON energy façade systems are made up of two key components: the glass panels with embedded photovoltaic technology, and the underlying framework which includes the mounting system and electrical wiring. The modules are manufactured on a highly automated production line in Germany in Hamlar, Bavaria. ENVELON has adopted a stringent system approach. The individual facades can be assembled from a range of modules with different dimensions and colors based on the specific location and requirements profile.
The technology has already convinced other committees. In November 2022, ENVELON won the prestigious Architecture MasterPrize 2022 in the categories Product Design of the Year and Product Best Of Best. In December 2022, the IDA's Design Award Gold also joined the ranks of the honorees.
“The fact that we have received so many awards in such a short period demonstrates to me that our solar-active façades provide suitable answers to pressing issues of our times. Our solutions unleash innovations in sustainable construction – with aesthetically stunning design. This fills me with great positivity for the future.”
“Good design requires an in-depth examination of the challenges of our time – because social and political changes require constant questioning and the ability to set new priorities, as well as incorporating previously unknown perspectives,” explains Lutz Dietzold, CEO of the German Design Council. “The German Design Awards draws attention to those companies, projects and products that keep pace with the transformations of our time, driving sustainable solutions and providing innovative responses to an ever-changing world.”
German Design Awards 2023
The German Design Awards are the most significant prizes of the German Design Council and among the most recognized international design awards. For eleven years now, the German Design Council has been honoring pioneering designers and their work with this coveted prize. Entries are judged by an international jury made up of leading experts from all disciplines of design. Their judgment is invaluable – anyone whose product/project impresses this jury has demonstrated a high level of competence in design innovation and a sharp focus on the demands of their own customers and the market. In short, whoever wins here is one of the best. An award – whether “Special Mention”, “Winner” or even “Gold” – makes the work globally visible and opens up a valuable network with international reach to the companies and designers.
German Design Council – the initiator
The German Design Council (www.gdc.de) is the German center of excellence for design, branding, and innovation. Its mission is to represent the German design scene and promote and make high-quality design visible. Established in 1953 as a foundation on the initiative of the German Bundestag, it supports industry in consistently achieving brand-added value through design. In addition to trade associations and institutions, the exclusive network of members of the German Design Council foundation includes, in particular, the owners and brand managers of well-known companies. More than 350 companies are currently members of the German Design Council.
The German Design Council – official partner of the New European Bauhaus initiative
The New European Bauhaus is a unique EU initiative for a sustainable, aesthetic, and inclusive future. Combining art, culture, science and technology, the initiative aims to explore ways of shaping our future environment to enable Europe to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 within the framework of the European Green Deal. It creates a link between the European Green Deal and our living spaces. It calls all Europeans to develop and realize ideas for a sustainable, inclusive, aesthetically, intellectually, and emotionally appealing future together.
